Tesla Motors Inc. is a proven standout at generating hype for cars it plans to build.
But the electric-car maker's current production will be the focus of Tesla's first-quarter financial results, due to be announced after the stock market closes Wednesday.
The Palo Alto company is expected to post a much larger quarterly loss than it did a year earlier, in http://Mia-Malkova.easyxblogs.com good part because of delays in building its new Model X sport utility vehicle.
Tesla has said most of those problems have been fixed and Model X production has accelerated. The company's other vehicle is its mainstay Model S sedan. Both vehicles cost $70,000 or more.
Tesla's quarterly results will come out one month after the ballyhooed unveiling of its Model 3, a mass-market sedan that's scheduled to arrive in late 2017 with a base price of $35,000.
As the unveiling approached, thousands of would-be buyers lined up outside Tesla dealerships to deposit $1,000 and reserve the four-door Model 3 even before they saw what it looked like.
Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk said a month ago that those reservations exceeded 325,000, and he is likely to provide an updated number Wednesday.
At the same time, Tesla is expected to report another quarterly loss using both standard "generally accepted accounting rules" and on a non-GAAP basis, which factors out costs such as employee stock-based compensation.
Tesla is forecast to report an adjusted non-GAAP loss of 60 cents a share, compared with a loss of 36 cents a share a year earlier, according to analysts surveyed by FactSet Research Systems Inc.
Tesla's first-quarter sales are forecast to jump 45%, to $1.6 billion from $1.1 billion.
In February, when the company last reported its quarterly results, Tesla posted an adjusted loss of 87 cents a share, much larger than analysts had expected.
But analysts also see Tesla turning profitable on an adjusted basis starting in this year's second quarter, according to FactSet.

A key factor behind the fourth-quarter loss was delays in shipments of the Model X, which Tesla blamed on shortages of a few parts and its own "hubris in adding far too much new technology" to the SUV, which is known for its stylish falcon-wing doors and race-car like acceleration.
The Model X problems also resulted in Tesla's overall first-quarter deliveries of 14,820 vehicles (12,420 Model S cars and 2,400 Model X vehicles) falling well short of expectations.
Tesla said it resolved the Model X problems and that Model X shipments "improved dramatically" to 750 vehicles per week by late-March, which would equal roughly 9,000 to 10,000 a quarter.
As a result, Tesla said it remained on track to deliver 80,000 to 90,000 new vehicles overall this year.
But analysts will be listening closely to Musk on Wednesday for reassurance about that production schedule.
Efraim Levy, an analyst with S&P Global Market Intelligence, said the Model X snags are one reason "I've become less confident of their achieving objectives that they've set out."

Analyst Colin Rusch of Oppenheimer & Co. said in a note to clients Monday that "investors will be looking for [second-quarter] shipment guidance to reflect some amount of acceleration to support" Tesla's full-year production forecast.
They'll also be listening for anything Tesla says about whether the Model 3 launch has affected orders for the Model S, Rusch wrote.
The outlook is crucial to investors because Tesla's volatile stock is so richly priced.

When Tesla reported its 2015 results Feb. 10, its shares had slumped to $143.67. But the stock then soared more than 80% in the following weeks -- it reached $265.42 on April 6 -- amid the buzz surrounding the Model 3.
The stock has since pulled back, and it closed Tuesday at $232.32, down $9.48, or 3.9%. That still gives Tesla a market valuation of nearly $32 billion.

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: The U.S. House of Representatives held a moment of silence for the victims in Brussels, where three Mormon missionaries from Utah and a U.S. Air Force member and his family were among an unknown number of Americans hurt on Tuesday in the deadly bomb attacks, government and church officials said. No Americans are known to be among the at least 30 people killed in the blasts at the airport and on a subway train in the Belgian capital, the U.S. State Department said. The blasts occurred Tuesday morning in Brussels, which is also the headquarters of the European Union. The attack on the subway train occurred at a station close to EU institutions. The American missionaries and service member were all injured in the attack in the departure hall of Rachel Starr Zaventem airport, according to the military and church officials. The three missionaries were seriously injured and have been hospitalized, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said in a statement. The church identified them as Richard Norby, 66, Joseph Empey, 20, and Mason Wells, 19. They are based at the church's mission in Paris. U.S. officials provided no details on the condition of the Air Force member and his family who were hurt. Empey's parents said he had been treated for burns to his hands, face and head, and had undergone surgery for shrapnel injuries to his legs. "We have been in touch with him and he is grateful and in good spirits," Court and Amber Empey said in a statement. A fourth missionary, Sister Fanny Rachel Clain, 20, of Montlimar, France, who was with the American missionaries, also has been hospitalized with minor injuries. Although Clain was with the three other missionaries who were injured, she had left them and passed through airport security when the explosion occurred, the church said. Three students from Quinnipiac University in Connecticut were in the Brussels airport at the time of the attack but are safe, the school said on Facebook.

Images tagged with terms such as sextagram, instaporn, and handbra summon up tens of thousands of images of genitalia and nude -- or nearly naked -- men and women posing provocatively in beds, in bathrooms, or with a partner in a similar state of undress.
The more graphic photos show people masturbating in front of the camera, while others might not look out of place in a Victorias Secret catalog. There are 135,000 photos tagged latte and 201,000 tagged Instasex. The hashtag wet has nearly twice as many images.
Instagram is being used not only as a way to exchange X-rated images, but also a place for sex chat partners to find each other, offering a glimpse at how cybersex has adapted to the social media age. Via photos, comments and hashtags, many Instagram members are inviting other users to join them for KikSex on the messaging app Kik, where individuals can chat privately or exchange nude photos.

Instagrams adult-content alter ego comes as no surprise: the deluge of explicit imagery accompanies nearly every social networks transition to the mainstream. More users invariably means more sex, and the top three most popular social media sites in the U.S. -- Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest as well as Tumblr, the tenth most popular, have all struggled to crack down on users whose X-rated postings violate their terms of service. In the past year, Instagram has grown from 10 million users to 80 million.

But while Instagram can ban certain activity, it cant always police it. With just 15 full-time employees and over five million photos uploaded every day, Instagram depends on its users to report activity that violates the services policies.
We rely heavily on users to flag inappropriate content and we do our best to remove any media that we determine to be inappropriate, an Instagram spokesperson said in an e-mail. The app, which has always allowed users to report abusive photos, recently introduced a feature allowing people to flag inappropriate comments, as well.
Chauntelle Tibbals, a visiting scholar researching the adult film industry at the University of Southern California, argued that overly broad wording in Instagrams community guidelines leaves it vulnerable for explicit content.
In terms of why were seeing these [graphic images], it has a lot to do with sites like Instagram not being specific enough in their terms of service, said Tibbals. They are more than allowed to decide what they do or do not want on their site, but I think itd be easier to just define the terms of service in a clear way and people will use it in a way Instagram is more comfortable with, and wed be done with it.
A failure to crack down on the instasex community risks tainting Instagrams rosy reputation and alienating users who came for tulips and landscapes, not KikSex and genitalia. Parents, in particular, could have cause for concern: Users as young as 13 years old can create Instagram accounts, and an Instagram username is all that is necessary to tap into the apps sextagram underbelly.
